This week in vaccines

6th March 2016

This week was a big one for HPV vaccination, as both Nepal and India started introducing the vaccine to protect girls from major causes of cervical cancer. Cambodia also introduced a vaccine against Japanese Encephalitis, which is a mosquito-borne disease also known as “brain fever”

Conversations about a possible Zika vaccine continued, while the threat of misinformation in the ongoing epidemic was explored. A new toolkit for people wanting to help change community opinions in favour of vaccination was also released.

Last week’s immunisation conference in Ethiopia prompted some follow up discussion around unusual partnerships and how to keep meningitis A out of Africa.

And finally, to remind us all why all of this is important in the first place, UN Foundation launched a beautiful video tracing a mother and daughter’s long journey to a vaccination clinic in Haiti. Watch it and understand why distance matters for saving little lives.
